Very close to Monticello, visitors can drive (or hike!) up Carter’s Mountain Orchard and pick apples while admiring the breathtaking views of Charlottesville and Albemarle. Finally, a visit to the Blue Ridge Mountains is in order for colorful leaf lovers.

As previously mentioned, Monticello is a must-see historical attraction. In addition, the University of Virginia, also designed by Thomas Jefferson, is not to be missed. For those who are passionate about history and politics, Ash Lawn-Highland (home of President James Monroe) is located only a few miles from Monticello. For art lovers, there is a myriad of galleries which one can visit on the Historic Downtown Mall in Charlottesville and all around Albemarle County. There is always a great selection of live music events to choose from, from opera to contemporary sounds.
